Winning wasn’t the point, when racing driver, Hervé Poulain, in 1975 had the very first Art Car painted by American artist, Alexander Calder. The painted car competed in the Le Mans 24-hour race, it didn’t win but it definitely won the audience’s attention. Later on, artists like Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, David Hockney and Roy Lichtenstein painted cars. I find the concept very interesting, check out these old school photos.
